Abstract: This chapter focuses on the performance enhancement of Thulium/doped fiber amplifier (TDFA), for optical fiber communication system, sensors and devices. The TDFA performance enhancement is represented by three different methods. The first method deals with the sband Gain and Noise Figure Improvements in Thulium-doped Fiber Amplifier By Using Macro-bending and Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) Approach. The second method deals with the transversal distribution profile effect on the performance of TDFA. A new method for gain and noise figure enhancements in S-band Thulium-doped fiber amplifier (TDFA) co-doped with aluminum is demonstrated using a macro-bending and Thulium-Aluminum co-doped Photonic Crystal Fiber approach. The macro-bending and Thulium-Aluminum co-doped photonic crystal fiber amplifier (TD-PCFA) suppresses both the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) at 800nm and 1800nm wavelength region and consequently improves the S-band gain of the TDFA. © 2017 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
