Abstract: This paper gives an overview to the principle of direct torque control (DTC) of induction machines (IM) drives. A summary to the various techniques of torque ripple reduction followed by a proposed simple method to reduce the torque ripple is also presented. Modeling and design methodology of this proposed method are given. Simulations of the proposed controllers were performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation package. The results show that the controllers have managed to reduce the torque ripple significantly. © 2003 IEEE.
