It is based on a branch of mathematics known as lambda calculus. In this article, we provide a brief overview, aimed at those new to the field, and explain the progress of functional programming since its inception. A selection of functional languages are provided as examples. We also suggest some improvements and speculate on the potential future directions of this paradigm.||Description:||Volume :6, Issue No :1, Article ID :-, Page Start :32, Page End :36, ISSN :1985-7721||URI:||http://dspace.uniten.edu.my:8080/jspui/handle/123456789/57|
