This paper describes the application of project management principles in the planning, design, implementation of complex networks such as GTEL of California. A systems approach was used for the design and selection of the project management information system. A conceptual model was developed to demonstrate an 'ideal system.' The system selection process started with a comprehensive requirements analysis, followed by criteria identification, evaluation of alternatives, and finally package selection.
